We are delighted to be joined by Dr Amy Bebbington, Director of Training for the Association of British Choral Directors to offer a choral conducting workshop as part of Durham’s 2025 Vocal Festival. The class will be suitable for established choral conductors who may be music graduates, music teachers, choral directors and others working in the field of choral leadership. The masterclass will take place at Ushaw College, Durham on Saturday 1st February from 9.30-4.30 and will conclude with a short informal performance of all repertoire. Spaces are available for up to 10 conductors and 20 observers.
The day will start with a short plenary session with the conductors and observers focusing on technical skills and gestural qualities. Singers will join the conductors from 11.00 and Amy will work with each conductor for a period of podium time which can be recorded to provide insights on technical, practical and musical matters and choices.
Applicants must have prior experience of conducting choirs, be of Intermediate/Advanced level and have a sound technical competency. Please briefly indicate in the application form your musical training and choral leading experience.
